again rubbed smooth is a project created by violist Victor Guaita Igual and accordionist Carlo Sampaolesi. The duo bases its practice on the research and deep study of Memory as a compositional technique and extemporary creation. The two, intimately sitting opposite each other, enter into a ten-minute improvisation in which each gesture, sound and relationship with the other must be memorised. At the end of the first improvisation, after a few seconds of silence, the piece starts again at the beginning, already a ghost unfolding simultaneously with the recent memory of the original. The process is repeated, every ten minutes, in a continuous cycle in which each sound-gesture reappears as the recollection of a previous event. Only what is remembered is played, and the rest is left into stasis. This process of 'erasure' of the material allows what is essential to remain, while creating a tension in listening due to the continuous wandering within memories that constitutes the performative action.
